Lost Wax Casting & Carving with Elise (June 28th-29th)

Lost Wax Casting & Carving with Elise (June 28th-29th)
In this class, you will learn traditional techniques for wax carving and lost wax casting.
On day one, we will transfer your custom design and learn reductive carving techniques to bring
the wax to life. Students will finish day one with their completed wax ring, sprued, and invested
for overnight burnout. Day two will be casting day, we will alloy sterling silver and vacuum cast
our rings together. The remainder of the course will focus on casting, clean-up, and polishing
techniques. Students will leave with a unique piece of wearable art and hopefully a newfound love for wax!
This introductory class is perfect for anyone new to working with wax and casting, or someone wanting to deepen their knowledge of the craft in an intimate setting. Whether this is day one or you’ve been making jewelry for years, this class will give you an intensive understanding of the curriculum.
All equipment and materials are provided and included in the cost for this
class. A list of tools will be provided if you want to continue your wax carving practice at home.
Elise Kallweit is a fine jeweler and goldsmith specializing in custom wedding and
engagement rings, often featuring ornate sculptural and organic imagery. Elise collaborates with
her clients to create one-of-a-kind jewelry designed with their significant others in mind. Each
piece is hand-carved in wax, cast in-house, and completed at her home studio in Hillsboro,
Oregon.
